From a drug addict fifteen years ago, to a spiritual leader and world-renown woman in business, Gabrielle Bernstein’s perspective on addiction is one that’ll completely transform your life.
I had the chance to sit with this New York Bestselling author, spiritual teacher, and entrepreneur, Gabrielle Bernstein, and during our fifty-minute interview, I dissected her past (Pain), her journey (Price) and her success (Prize).
“You can’t heal, if you are not willing to heal” – Gabby Bernstein
Gabrielle Bernstein may be a big author and life coach, but that’s but the tip of her story. Before her success and fame, Gabby struggled with drug addiction which she says, was her way of running from her trauma. However, 15 years ago, she gave up on her addiction and embraced her meditation and spirituality, a decision that led her to where she is today.
Here’s a sneak peek of the advice she shared on healing from addiction, depression and anxiety.
“Getting rid of your addiction is only the first step to recovery” – Gabby Bernstein
According to Gabby, healing and improving your personal growth only happens when you are willing to heal. She believes that this is something that you need to submit to daily. She further adds, that willingness to change also means that you’re ready to accept guidance.
This may mean that you’ll have to get rid of that habit that’s destroying you, or cut-off those relationships that make you feel bad about yourself. Gabby says, “true willingness is when you have the bravery to accept change in whatever form it’s coming.”
“Our net worth is a reflection of our self-worth” – Gabby Bernstein
Gabby says the only way to get through the modern, judgmental, digital environment is by having a high level of self-worth. She believes that ‘worthiness comes with authenticity,’ and that we gain our authenticity from accepting ourselves – accepting our pains, and the situations we’ve been through, and acknowledging that our struggles were part of the learning process.
She says that we can build self-worthiness by living and building conscious relationships with others. This means honoring and respecting the emotions and feelings of others in our relationships.
“Learn the difference between fear and your inner voice” – Gabby Bernstein
Gabby revealed that more often than not, you’ll have to rely on your faith to take you through this journey. She says that her faith really helped her hang on until she finally recovered. She continues to say that fear tries to create the feeling that ‘if it’s not painful, there’s no purpose. It creates conflict.’
She says that during moments of fear, you should instead listen to your inner voice. She believes that your inner wisdom is an empowering voice, not a terrifying voice, that will guide you rather than control you. ‘Once you master your inner wisdom, you’ll be in touch with the universe, and that will open endless doors of opportunity for you’.
“What we are, is what we create” – Gabby Bernstein
Gabrielle believes that success starts with your visualization. She believes in visualization meditation and says that it was something that helped her achieve her success today. She says, “You have to start visualizing being and doing that ‘something’ that you want to be or create.”
If you want to be happy, visualize yourself in a happy place, waking up happy and excited for the day. She also says that besides visualization, you have to write down that vision and take action. Take those small baby steps towards the vision, and soon enough, the vision will unfold.
“Our obstacles can be detours in the right direction” – Gabby Bernstein
Throughout my discussion with Gabrielle Bernstein, she continues to emphasize the importance of self-worth and your connection with the universe. She believes that you can attract success, happiness and joy to your life. But you need to have faith, back it up with love, service to others and most importantly take action.
She went ahead to teach us some effective meditation techniques, how to attract greatness to our lives, and how to manage stress. She also exposed some of the topics she covers in her books.
